The Cascade Mycological Society February meeting speaker is Chris Melotti. He will be giving a presentation on beginning mushrooming, with a focus on edible species. The talk is free and open to the public.

Chris Melotti is a long time CMS board member, who has led many presentations over the course of his tenure with CMS. Chris has an encyclopedic knowledge of local mushroom species combined with the ability to make the information accessible to the beginner and expert alike.

Paintings by watercolorist, Norma Adams and ‘impressionist’ paintings in a mixture of mediums by Susi Hukari will be on display in the City Hall Gallery during the month of February.  Photographer Deigh Bates will have an exhibit of photos in Mayor Lundberg’s office through March.

The Springfield Arts Commission will host a reception at the City Hall Gallery as part of Springfield’s Second Friday Downtown Art Walk. Light refreshments will be offered.

Mayor Christine Lundberg will hold her monthly “Meet and Greet” during the reception in her office in City Hall.  You can also meet photographer Deigh Bates during the event. Music during the reception will be provided by pianist Matthew Pavilanis.

Friends of the Springfield Public Library are holding their third annual Book Roundup Day at the Springfield Public Library.

Please bring your unwanted books, DVDs, CDs, audio books and music to the Springfield Library on 6th and A Street by the covered parking area. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload materials and give donators tax deductible receipts. Organizers ask you exclude any encyclopedias, mildewed books, magazines, textbooks or out of date computer manuals.

Books donated will later be sold at the Friends of the Springfield Public Library Book Sale on March 9 to help raise funds for the Springfield Public Library.
